I think the Infiniti Q50 is one of the best looking cars in the compact sports sedan category.
Design wise, it’s not IS levels of bold but it isn’t A4 levels of dull. It’s the happy medium and is well sculpted to not look like an amorphous blob a-la C-Class.
I do wish Infiniti would ditch to dual-screen infotainment thing. It doesn’t work in a $26k Honda, it certainly doesn’t work in a $40k luxury sports sedan.
On top of that, 400 horsepower twin-turbo V6. Though I do mourn the death of the raspy little (big) VQ. Yes I was one of the people who LOVED the VQ’s exhaust note.

The Q50 is compact now?

Isn’t the ATS/3/C/IS/A4 category titled as compact?

Considering its around the dimensions of a midsize car like the Accord/Camry/Fusion...
More of a rival to the TLX than anything else.

In terms of sedans, this and the Mazda 6 are the best looking cars on the market in my opinion.

I can agree with this. They do the swoopy Japanese styling very well without being overdone.

I’m with you on the exhaust. My previous car was an 04 350z convertible. I honestly should have never got that car. It needed a new top, something was going south in the rear, the front bumper had been poorly fixed, and it was terrible on gas. God did it sound good, though.

At my local Infiniti dealer, it was presented as a sporty sedan. It is about the same size as an A4, which wikipedia classifies as “compact executive car”

My dad, who is not a car person, has been looking to replace his TL with something that has less than 250,000 miles. Even he said that the Mazdas look better than anything else he’s seen and he wants more of them to be sold so they’re cheaper used.

Preach! I defintely think it’s one of the best looking in its luxury class. Especially when compared against Lexus and Acura.

The cars with the VQ that always get me are the FX and EX. I never expect that sort of noise coming out the back of a mommy-mobile.

I’ve said this I don’t even know how many times here on Oppo and Jalopnik, but the day that Mazda makes a new Mazdaspeed6 with AWD, is the day I’ve found my next car.

I will admit I like how the IS looks to an extent, but I don’t see it aging near as well as the Infiniti. The Acura is, well... an Acura.

I actually really liked the FX. Test drove one a long time ago. Not bad for a “sporty” SUV.

I actually do like the IS in F-Sport guise, but the interior is clearly a little old when compared to the Infiniti, even if it’s classic “well put-together” Lexus material.
I also love how cheap some of the Q50s are getting on the used market, even the ones in S-guise with AWD.

I agree and think that the car lost a lot of character when the dropped the VQ engine.

Reading the C&D review for the Q50 Red Sport (400hp one), they say it keeps a similar sound to the VQ. So maybe not all is lost?

I live in Nissan country and I see too many of these with fleet tags on them to have any positive feelings about them.

I love the design of it.
I never considered buying a new car, but a year and a half ago, I was at the Infiniti dealer, ready to buy one. I knew exactly how I wanted it: diesel (obligatory because I drive a lot), manual (obligatory because manual), with the sport package (because look at it), in red (because red is fast). The sales person asked me if it had to be new, or if a used one would do, as he had one that ticked all the boxes, except it was black. But a 9000€ discount on a 6000 km car is an automatic NP (it was driven by an executive of the dealership for a few months). We went to the car, I hopped in for a test drive, pushed the start button... and that’s when it went downhill. The sound was just awful. I know for a fact modern diesels can sound good, so this is a no go.also it was really slow. Now, I am not a speed junkie, and one cannot drive too fast anyway, but it felt really underwhelming.
I later checked for the gasoline versions, but as those are auto only, I lost interest.
But the day I lose the ability to operate my left foot, I know exactly what to get.

Motor Trend posted an exhaust clip of it on their Insta. Sounds nothing like the VQ. Very quiet and weak like an econobox engine. Those turbos muffle so much of the sound.

It has a nice grill. Much more attractive than a Lexus grill.
In profile every sedan is a Malibu or an Impala or a blend of the two.
This is a blend. Angular rear window of an Impala slightly shape adjusted to look like Infiniti logo. Lower door lines of Malibu. Upper rear quarter of Impala.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I just got a Q50 a few months ago, and get nothing but compliments from people. My wife was instantly sold on its appearance. the VQ has a throaty sound and makes great power. The infotainment is overly complicated, but I like that the nav is up top and unrelated to all the busy stuff happening on the capacitive screen.

I don’t think so, as a Fiesta is sub-compact, Focus is compact, Fusion is mid-size.
